Sun halo has taken place on the sky of Padang, West Sumatra, today since 10 am. Most people refer to the phenomenon as a signal on future high-magnitude earthquake.

The sun halo happened when the clear sky was only dotted with some clouds. According to Wikipedia, a halo is an optical phenomenon produced by ice crystals creating colored or white arcs and spots in the sky. They are produced by the ice crystals in cirrus clouds high (5–10 km, or 3–6 miles) in the upper troposphere.

In addition to possible high-magnitude earthquake which may hit Sumatra, a presidential adviser on disaster issues, Andi Arief, said two Sumatra regions having the potentials of being affected by the tremor include Bengkulu and Mentawai.
