Google Files Lawsuit over Work-at-Home Internet Scam

The popular search engine Google is taking legal action against several companies alleged to have run a widespread work-at-home internet scam using the company's name and logo.

Pacific Webworks is among numerous unnamed defendants accused of attempting to lure people to purchase work-at-home kits for thousands of dollars. The scams have provoked a wealth of consumer complaints and several efforts by Google to shut down these operations.

"Misleading ads try to take advantage of consumers in the midst of a difficult economy, and as the economic situation has worsened, the problem has only grown," writes Google on its company blog.

Google will also attempt to remove URLs from its search engine and will permanently disable AdWorld accounts that break the industry- leader's terms of use rules.

The Internet company has launched an information campaign to help inform users of the risks involved with e-commerce and online scams by highlighting the need for consumers to remain vigilant of online security fraud.
